Individuals who suffer from anxiety and panic may struggle to understand why their bodies trick them into feeling a sudden urge of panic and loss of control. The panic of anxiety can cause havoc on individuals trying to cope with their symptoms, and people who interact with these individuals may not even recognize or even know their internal struggle. This series is a juxtaposition of what is seen externally and what is psychologically inhibited when experiencing anxiety.

With high-key lighting, the external images are photographed to express movement that could be recognized by anybody but not seen as alarming. Though, the distressing individual is experiencing the inability to rest, the persistent feeling of choking, and the dread that comes with the inhibition to do anything.  The internal images, with the use of low-key lighting, showcase the individual’s inner psychological distress when dealing with the sense of being overwhelmed, paralyzing fear, and the depression associated with anxiety.

For many individuals panic and anxiety can be solitary, lonely, and debilitating. The fight to control the panic and the symptoms surrounding it can be just as crippling as the panic itself. These images showcase what one might experience when anxiety or panic surrounds their life.
